Skateboarding and backpacking in Europe, traveling free of schedule or plan, I discover a lifestyle geared toward human purpose rather than human resource.  The bottlenecks to living this lifestyle are identified as The-God-of-the-Middle-Class, which leads to defining the cornerstone for a wide social evolution.

This true story of a skateboarding trip takes readers step for step with 25-year-old Jason Mallory, graduating college, snowboarding in Tahoe, dancing on the streets of New York City, rapping in Germany, playing DJ shows in Switzerland, camping on Mount Olympus with an Orthodox Monk, and living in an Italian beach commune where meeting a girl named Mary. 

Symbolic scenes describe Jason’s unique interface with the soup of world he is immersed in.  The-God-of-the-Middle-Class is identified as a sweeping motivation flowing through the speech and actions of near sovereign individuals, and the beneficial relevance of this ghost-like system to the world is questioned.  With example-like occurrences in the story, Jason is able to narrate issues of the globalizing public and other effects of technological maturity, making argument for a global court system, as well as stating the cornerstone socio-economic policy “Every person has the right to one equal share of the Representative Robotic Labor Force.”  For Joy and Wisdom brings a light, entertaining and relatable reader experience to some heavy ideas that carry real implications.

 The Product: 

        For Joy and Wisdom is a Book, an EP Music Album, and an Author Personality.

- The Author, Jason Mallory, is a well educated 29-year-old, musician, journalist, athlete, traveler, and visionary. 

- The Book, For Joy and Wisdom, is a first-person narrative non-fiction account of a post college backpacking and skateboarding trip to Europe.  The travels take the reader through a culture rich exploration of today’s world, while the narrative questions where it is this world is heading to, stating original philosophical concepts and cornerstone social designs.  (Y/A – Adult Crossover)

- The Music, recorded or composed during the accounts of the travels, is a handful of songs that can be produced into a complimentary EP Album.  The CD of the EP Album can also contain the ebook version of For Joy and Wisdom, and vice versa, the physical book can include free downloads of the songs from the story.  So, rather than readers trying to imagine what a song mentioned in the book sounds like, they can actually play it, or maybe even catch a book-reading with musical performance.

 

Alternative Ways to Market:

1. Extreme Sports retailers:  (Skateboards / Snowboards) Board shops in the region of South Lake Tahoe have agreed to carry For Joy and Wisdom when it prints.  By combining advertisements in demographic magazines with a mass-retailer-mailing highlighting the words “Available at your local board shop,” it is believed that at least some other retailers will carry the book.  There are roughly as many board shops in this country as there are bookstores.  If we can get 20,000 board shops to pick up 3 copies each, then we will have sold 60,000 copies before even talking to a bookstore.
2. Music Stores:  A handful of songs were recorded or composed during the travels of the book.  A half length (EP) Album can be created from it, and the CD can include the ebook version of For Joy and Wisdom.  This soundtrack allows the ebook to retail as an audio CD at any music store.   
3. Multi-Product Packaging:  The Audio CD can be attached to the front cover of the physical book.  When on a shelf at a bookstore, the book will look different, and draw potential customers to pull it down to find out why a book has a CD jewel-case stuck to the front of it.  When they see that they can get a book with an included CD soundtrack, it will positively influence the purchase decision.

Author Promotion Strategy:

        Author Jason Mallory is planning to make a two or three month cross country motorcycle trip, and to derive a blog series during the travels.  The Blog series will be made available on the Internet in its entirety, and individual segments will be sent to area newspapers where the segments take place.  Already, The Tahoe Daily Tribune, and San Francisco Book Review have shown interest in the project, and are open to running a feature interview regarding it.  Also, during the travels, Jason will conduct reading and perform his acoustic guitar songs at Open Mic’s around the country, capitalizing on pre-gathered crowds.  These efforts will likely build following to Jason Mallory, and sell his books to his readers in the future.
